How to remove a broken bolt

If you work on cars you know….This can turn a 30 minute job into a 4 hour job… but don’t worry it’s not that big of a a deal. Follow along as I do a basic extraction. This one was pretty standard. I would give it a 2 out or 10 for difficulty. If you like this type of video let me know. I’m sure it won’t be long and I’ll run into much tougher extraction. Thanks for watching!

Nice find!!!
Reminds me of my days back in the 80's when you could go junk yard shopping for Jeep parts.
Cha ching!! Jackpot!!! You da man👍🦊! Like you said pieces parts will make a whole lot work , somewhere/sometime in another project!! ( I Para phrase ...lol..A bit!) Awesome find!! 👍🐺🧙♂️🦊🤙
I've seen that puller around the shop and didn't realize it was for drums, just knew it was for pulling something. Now to try and find it again. Grandpa built an incredible 2400 sqft shop but had no idea how to organize anything. He died in 01, but most of his tools are pretty much where he left them. I built my own work benches and use my own tools, mostly leaving his alone. It's been long enough now it's time to move on from it being a shrine to him and use the space I'm spoiled to have. thanks for the video, I haven't had the drums off since 2010 and wanted a reminder now that I've forgotten everything I used to know!
That's the best tire s...
Did that tire just take a tube like a bicycle
Yup, tubed tyres are wonderful!
@@esky_boii interesting
Ive gotta get my spare wheel cleaned up and my NDT mounted. My spare mount came in a few days ago.
Nice!! 👍
Really?? Hmmmm?? 🤔👌! Must be in the stars.. you are the 3rd one today.. that I know got a flat!! Good to get a spare! 👌🐺🧙♂️🦊👍
This is so cool! Are most of these things for flat fenders only? Every time I try to find folks to go with they act like I'm not allowed because I have a 1964 cj5.
For All the stuff I’m involved in….we just invite our friends. It’s not a big public model specific event.
Willy's still got it
Did you use any of the original sm420 bell housing mounting holes? Looks like all 4 bell housing holes had to be drill and tapped in the trans case to fit the Willy’s bell housing
This is a full custom conversion. Nothing lines up. lol. The Willys and GM do not share any holes.
@@redeyecafegarage7484 Thank you for the reply! I’m sure I’ll have a lot more questions
I knew you knew it was going to do better than smoke and sputtering. Nice job sir!
Thanks 👍
Ahh so a better line makes an engine better? I always wondered how that works
This went right over your head 😆
👍
Cool tool!! We used to just use razor blade by hand, didn’t even know there was a tool like that!!!!
Yeah this thing was pretty nifty and saved a lot of time.
Always Great content!!!!
Thank you!
The only problem is that the rotaries make the peak torque at a very high rpm, while the American off road engines peak torque at 2,500 rpm on average (at least the older ones)
That is 100% not a problem. The naturally aspirated rotaries make plenty of torque at lower rpm. I’m a light vehicle that is geared correctly they make great engines. People often forget that the stock engine make 60hp and 105 tq at the crank so on a good day you’re putting down 38hp 80tq to the wheels. That’s not hard to beat. Plus the cast iron 4cyl is double the weight. So despite internet myths and fear of rotaries the facts don’t lie.
Thanks for these videos- just finished a valve adjustment using this method. Made it quick and simple 👍
Excellent!! 😎 glad to hear it!!
Why is the thermostat up in the housing and not in the head ? seems to me that it would open sooner in the head , ?
The location is a non-issue. It’s how it was designed.
Build YOUR rig the way YOU Want and drive it the way YOU want
Amen!
I really appreciate you putting all the measurements for the hardware mounting. I got mine on with out a hitch.
Excellent! I’m glad it helped!
Engine has very little to do with this. Traction and picking the right way is the key. Good throttle control helps. A lightweight engine is actually a detriment. Less weight =less traction.
lol… when it comes to off-roading lighter is better. We aren’t plowing snow or doing truck pulls.
@@redeyecafegarage7484 not always. Traction is Traction. Weight always helps with Traction. Mudding, on the other hand, weight can be bad. On hard ground or rock Traction is better.
What front axle is that
That’s a dodge Dana 60 I used or mock-up. I ended up using a a Dana 60 from an f350.
Gyattttttttt😮
Driver and traction made the difference here. Engine isn’t important, so long as it’s paired with the right gears.
It’s so interesting that your comment aligns with what everyone is saying 😆 because whenever I build something everyone says the exact opposite haha! So this confirms that all UA-cam comments are void and should be ignored! 😆 😆 😆
Soo cute!
Does this help with the “death wobble”?
Death wobble is generally a combination of worn steering parts. Suspension can definitely add to that issue but it’s generally fixed via addressing neglected steering components 👍
how much you want for that engine cover? lol
I don’t have any spares… contact Craig Brockhouse on facebook. Join the fc150/170 FB group. Engine covers for these are actually pretty plentiful. I’ve seen lots of them for sale pretty cheap.
That’s really cool I have a few 8N Ford tractors that will come in handy!😀🇨🇦
I’ve had the same customer service experience with Myron with Zuks Offroad. He is always super helpful!
Yeah those guys are great!
Best engine ever designed. I love my rx8
They are pretty darn awesome
People are going "I JUST PAID $1000 FOR THIS!!!!???"
Haha. Is that what a shop charges for this job nowadays?
@@redeyecafegarage7484 on a good day. Just called ford parts, they said it's 900+ list 700+ my cost. For the part alone!!!! I'm sure it's at least 2.5 hours labor
Oh boy this might be something g else I need to use once and never again. I need chase some forks for a bike essentially. Not sure atm if it follows standard bike threads or not. Hopefully getting that info from the manufacturer of them. But this works way better than how I fixed the last pair I did. With a plain thin file 😮😢 fine threads and the forks had mashed threads on one side from abuse. Took a long time but these forks aren’t readily replaceable so it had to happen. The fact one file will do 8 thread types is excellent. Gonna need to keep this precious in an oiled rag or something. So it don’t rust up at all. Maybe even just grease it after use.
They have a coating on them. I just keep mine in the toolbox…no oil or grease. It doesn’t rust. 👍
well now i know when i do this im going to be using laser levels for the whole job.
No laser level used here. It turned out perfect. 👍
Work of Art!!!!
Wow thank you! 😊
Nice
Just gotta keep it in the power band.
With the light weigh and low gearing the “power band” is 1500-9000 😆
Mantap Bro👍👍
My Dad had two of these rigs. one was yellow, I think the other blue. He bought them in rough condition in the 80’s. Got em running great, somewhere in the mid to late 90’s he sold em. I still have his favorite- a 43 MB. Those cab overs climb really well but man, you always feel like you’re going to dona front flip going down steep hills
❤❤❤
That's badazz
Thanks dude!
Only thing i wish is he would have stated the socket sizes he used
absolutely nothing to do with the engine, bro just sucks at off-roading
Obviously it’s the driver and not the engine.
❤ the truck I have never seen one before.😊
That's cool
Your first 1:36 was the best. Don’t polish shit! To many others edit the hell out of stuff. There are only a handful of what is good. Mustie1 is a mechanical genius and Vice Grip Garage. Genuine people.metalshaper as well
There’s a balance between showing everything and not publishing a 47 minute long boring video 😆 some people also need to trim the fat. No one wants to watch you fumble around looking for tools or tightening all 27 oil Pan bolts. If it a not a step by step video I edit out the fluff. Also… eveyone will just tell you everything you do is wrong anyway ha!!
Hello, I was having trouble with my reverse idler shaft. I was trying it your way with hitting it out, but I ended up having to go a different route that might help someone in the future. I used a larger socket to put on the back side of the shaft, and a smaller socket on the front. I then squeezed them together using a c-clamp and it popped right out. Thanks for all of the info! you are helping me rebuild my cj3!
Great tip! Thanks for watching and commenting
Engines don't make much of a difference when traction here is key. Diff locks, a set of good tires, and an experienced driver are going to get the job done.
You need to calibrate the TPS by turning it slightly and using mulimeter also to test resistance at open and closed throttle
